A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13596 reads as a warm golden tan with a muted yellow-brown undertone. It is lighter than a deep ochre, but it still has enough color to look deliberate rather than beige or cream.
MyPerfectColor makes paint matched to the selected Fed Standard or AMS-STD-595 color reference, so this is a practical match of AMS-STD-595 13596 for specification-driven work rather than an official government-issued coating system. It is suited to projects where the target is the reference color itself.
For spray-paint use, this shade can work well on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, support hardware, cabinets, carts, vent covers, switch plates, railings, fabricated parts, and training or prototype assemblies that need a consistent government-standard appearance. It is also a reasonable choice for color-coding accessories, covers, and small components where a warm tan reference is required.
Because this color is moderately light, dark or uneven substrates may show contrast if the base is not prepared well. Finish, film build, and texture can also shift how warm or yellow the color appears, and touch-up beside an aged coating may not blend exactly if the existing surface has faded, chalked, or changed sheen. For acceptance-sensitive work, a sample panel or match to the existing part can help reduce risk.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13596 is a government color reference target. It tells you what color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion system, application method, or formal approval status. If your project specification only calls for the color reference, MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 13596 may be the right ordering choice. If the job also requires a specific coating system or acceptance process, confirm those requirements separately.
Not always. A standard color match to AMS-STD-595 13596 is matched to the reference target, not to an aged coating that may have faded, weathered, changed sheen, or been applied over a different substrate. For touch-up beside an older finish, the repaired area can still read differently even when the color code is correct. If the work is acceptance-critical or highly visible, a sample panel or an existing-part match is often the safer path.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13596 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, carts, fixtures, color-coded hardware, training aids, mock-ups, and prototypes. It is useful anywhere the goal is to match a government color reference across fabricated or maintained parts. For these projects, ordering MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 13596 helps you work from the same color target used in the drawing, manual, or procurement requirement.
No. AMS-STD-595 13596 defines the color reference, not the durability requirements. You still need to choose the product chemistry and format based on the service environment, such as interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and the substrate being coated. MyPerfectColor can supply a custom match to AMS-STD-595 13596, but the color code alone does not determine whether the coating system is suitable for the environment.
Plan dry time, recoat windows, and full cure based on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order, not on the color code itself. AMS-STD-595 13596 only identifies the color target. Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and handling time can differ by product type, film build, temperature, humidity, and substrate. Before starting the job, check the product instructions for the exact format you selected and use those timings for your project schedule.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use.
