A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13432 reads as a vivid yellow-orange with a warm, golden bias and very little grayness. It has a clean, saturated character rather than a muted neutral look, and it can read more orange or more amber depending on finish and substrate.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on color-coded hardware, equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, switch covers, tool carts, and fabricated parts. It also fits restoration, prototyping, and maintenance work on smaller items such as frames, housings, railings, and accessory components where a repeatable orange-yellow is needed.
Because the color is highly chromatic, coverage can show unevenly if the substrate is dark, rough, or inconsistent. A uniform base and careful film build help the color read even, while gloss and smooth surfaces can make it appear brighter and more saturated. On large or acceptance-sensitive parts, finish and surface condition can matter as much as the color match itself.
For specification-driven projects, a match to AMS-STD-595 13432 is not the same as matching an aged in-service coating. Weathering, fading, and sheen changes can shift the appearance of existing parts, so a part-to-part comparison or sample panel is useful when the surrounding finish is critical.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 13432 is a color reference target. It tells you which government standard color you are trying to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or approval status for your project.
When ordering, choose MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected Fed Standard or AMS-STD-595 color reference, then confirm the required product type and any project-specific performance or acceptance requirements separately.
Not always. Even if the color code is correct, an older in-service coating can have fade, weathering, gloss loss, texture changes, or contamination that make the repaired area look different from the surrounding finish.
If the repair is visually critical, a match to the existing part or a full-part repaint can be a better option than relying on the standard code alone. For less critical maintenance work, a standard-reference match is often acceptable.
The color code only sets the reference color. Final appearance also depends on gloss level, sheen, texture, film build, and how the coating is applied.
If finish matters on your project, make sure the product format and sheen match the requirement, and test on a sample panel before committing to the full part. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint can be ordered to the selected government color reference, but the finish still needs to fit the job.
Start with the environment, not just the color. Interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical contact, and substrate type can all affect which coating format is appropriate.
AMS-STD-595 13432 only tells you the target color. For government-standard color work, MyPerfectColor offers matched paint in practical formats such as spray paint and touch-up paint, but you should still choose the product type that fits the part and the service conditions.
Not by itself. If the procurement package, engineering authority, or acceptance process requires a sample panel, an existing-part match, or a project-specific coating approval, the standard color reference is only one part of the requirement.
In those cases, confirm the approval method before ordering. A standard-code match may be suitable for reference, but acceptance-critical work can require a panel or direct match to the existing part.
MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to US Government AMS-STD-595 13432 enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. The MyPerfectColor 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge spray paint need as the coverage is highly dependent on how it is applied. Learn more about how spray paint works at MyPerfectColor.
