A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 10091 reads as a deep, warm brown-orange with an earthy, slightly rusty cast and very low light reflectance. It is not a bright orange; the color sits closer to a muted red-brown with enough chroma to stay distinct without looking clean or sharp.

MyPerfectColor custom matched paint to this government color reference is useful when a drawing, maintenance order, or procurement spec calls for the code and the goal is visual consistency across parts. In spray paint form, it can suit brackets, enclosures, housings, panels, switch covers, hardware, support fixtures, rails, and fabricated components that need a repeatable reference match.

Because this is a dark color, finish and surface texture can materially affect the result. A glossier film may read deeper and make scratches, weld marks, or substrate texture more noticeable, while a flatter finish can soften that effect. On touch-up work beside older coatings, the code match may still look different if the existing part has faded, worn, or changed sheen over time.

For specification-driven work, this is a match to the selected Fed Standard 595C or AMS-STD-595 reference, not an official government coating system. If the project is acceptance-critical or the new paint must blend into an aged in-service surface, a sample panel or existing-part evaluation may be needed before committing to a full repaint.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 10091 *

What does AMS-STD-595 10091 mean when I order a match for this color?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 10091 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color standard you want matched, but it does not by itself choose the paint chemistry, gloss, surface prep, or coating system. MyPerfectColor can make paint matched to AMS-STD-595 10091, but you still need to pick the product format and finish that fit the job.

Will AMS-STD-595 10091 match an older painted part for touch-up work?

Not always. Even if the code is correct, an older in-service coating can have faded, weathered, or changed in sheen or texture. That means MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 10091 may still look different beside the existing finish. For a critical visible repair, a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part or sample panel can be a better choice than matching the standard alone.

How should I plan dry time and recoat timing for AMS-STD-595 10091 paint?

Do not plan dry time from the color code alone. Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages, and the right timing depends on the MyPerfectColor product format you choose, plus film thickness, temperature, humidity, and substrate. Use the product-specific instructions for the exact AMS-STD-595 10091 paint you order, then schedule handling and second coats from those instructions.

What should I confirm before placing a custom order for AMS-STD-595 10091?

Confirm the exact government color code, the product type, the finish, and the quantity before you buy. MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint made to match AMS-STD-595 10091 is made to order, so review the details carefully before checkout. Custom color matches are not returnable or refundable, so it is important to make sure the selected item matches the project requirement.

How do I reorder AMS-STD-595 10091 and keep the finish consistent?

Reorder by the exact code, product type, and finish. That gives you the best chance of keeping AMS-STD-595 10091 consistent across parts or repeat orders. Even then, substrate, surface prep, and application method can still change the final appearance, so keep those variables as close as possible when you plan the next order.
