Avoid heavy passes, because too much wet paint at once can cause runs, uneven sheen, or a muddy-looking build. Let each coat dry or flash off according to the product directions before adding the next coat. Several light coats usually give better control than one heavy coat.

Choose the finish based on how the part will be used and how much reflectivity you want on the finished item. The Behr MQ3-27 Etched Glass color reference does not by itself define sheen, so the finish you order can change how the matched color reads on the surface.

Clean the surface first so oil, wax, dirt, and loose material do not interfere with adhesion. If the metal or existing coating is glossy, scuff it before painting so the new MyPerfectColor match of Behr MQ3-27 Etched Glass has a better surface to bond to.

Address rust, corrosion, peeling paint, or contamination before you apply the topcoat. The condition of the old coating, along with its gloss and texture, can affect how the new color looks after it dries. If the substrate is bare, damaged, or unknown, a primer may be needed before the matched paint.
