A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 20150 reads as a medium-dark brown with a muted olive-yellow undertone. It is low in lightness and moderate-to-low in chroma, so it looks earthy rather than bright or red-brown.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this color can be used on specification-driven parts such as equipment panels, control boxes, enclosures, brackets, vents, hardware, cabinet faces, railings, speaker grilles, and fabricated support pieces. It is also a practical option for touch-up on carts, tool mounts, training aids, mock-ups, and restored components where the target is a Fed Std 595C reference.
Because the color is relatively dark, the substrate and film build matter. Lighter or uneven bases may take more coats to cover evenly, while gloss level can make texture, repair edges, and surface condition more visible. A smoother finish will usually read deeper, while a flatter finish can soften the color a bit.
For government-standard work, the code defines the visual target, not the coating system or approval status. A fresh match to Fed Std 595C 20150 may differ from an aged or sun-faded part, so adjacent repairs can warrant a sample panel or direct comparison when appearance is critical.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 20150 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color standard to order, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, or approval status.
If your project calls for this code, choose MyPerfectColor paint matched to US Government Fed Std 595C 20150 and then confirm the finish, product type, and any project-specific coating requirements separately.
Not always. A standard-code match is the right starting point for new parts or full repaints, but an older in-service coating can have fade, sheen change, texture change, or wear that makes the repaired area look different even when the code is correct.
If you are touching up beside an existing coating, compare against the actual part or a sample panel. For acceptance-critical work, a match to the existing finish may be safer than relying on the standard code alone.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different milestones. The correct schedule depends on the exact MyPerfectColor product format you order, such as spray paint or touch-up paint, along with temperature, humidity, film thickness, and the substrate.
Use the product label or product instructions for the actual timing. The Fed Std 595C 20150 color code tells you the color target, but it does not control dry time or recoat timing.
Yes. Custom color orders should be reviewed carefully before purchase. Confirm the exact color code, product format, finish, and quantity so you do not order the wrong version for the job.
Custom-made color matches are not returnable or refundable, so it is important to verify that US Government Fed Std 595C 20150 is the correct reference before you place the order.
Reorder by the exact color code, product type, and finish. That is the best way to keep repeat orders aligned on multi-part or multi-stage projects.
Even with the same US Government Fed Std 595C 20150 reference, substrate, primer, film build, and application method can change how the finished surface looks. If the job is appearance-critical, keep a record of the original product and process used.
