A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 25630 reads as a light, muted neutral with a soft warm cast. It sits in the pale gray range, but the low chroma and slight yellow-green bias keep it from looking stark or blue. On a smooth finish it can read a little cleaner; on textured or matte surfaces it tends to appear softer and more subdued.
MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this government color reference can be used on panels, equipment housings, electrical enclosures, brackets, switch covers, vents, cabinets, carts, and fabricated parts that need a consistent light neutral finish. It is also a practical choice for touch-up on small metal or plastic components, training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded accessories where the specified standard matters more than a decorative color selection.
Because this is a light, low-chroma color, it can show substrate color shift, primer variation, and uneven coverage more readily than a darker shade, especially over dark or patched surfaces. Film build, sheen, and substrate texture can change how warm or gray it looks after spraying. For work beside an aged in-service coating, the standard code may match the reference even if the existing finish has faded, dirtied, or shifted gloss over time.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 25630 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to order, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or any formal approval status.
For that reason, MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 25630 should be selected as the color target, while the rest of the coating system still needs to be chosen for the job requirements.
Not always. Even if the color match to Fed Std 595C 25630 is correct, an older in-service coating can look different because of weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, or a different prior paint system.
If the repair is next to an aged finish, the safest approach is often to compare against the actual part or consider repainting the full piece instead of relying only on the standard code.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 25630 is typically used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, carts, fixtures, training aids, mock-ups, and color-coded hardware.
If your drawing, manual, procurement package, or maintenance instruction calls out the code, MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to Fed Std 595C 25630 gives you a practical way to follow that reference on new parts, repairs, or prototype work.
Start by cleaning and degreasing the surface, then remove loose material and scuff smooth areas so the coating can bond properly. On metal, also check for corrosion and address it before painting.
If you are painting over an existing coating or a mixed substrate, test the Fed Std 595C 25630 match on the actual surface first. Primer choice and prep steps can affect both adhesion and the final appearance, so the substrate should be evaluated before a full application.
Reorder by the exact color code, the same product type, and the same finish whenever possible. That helps reduce variation between parts or repeat jobs.
Even with the correct Fed Std 595C 25630 match, substrate, film build, and application method can still change the final look. For multi-part projects, keep the same process and product selection across all pieces to improve consistency.
