A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 27778 reads as a light, muted beige with a soft yellow cast. The color is warm rather than cool, with low chroma and a pale value that can look slightly cream, sandy, or tan depending on finish and substrate.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint made to match this government color reference is a practical choice for specification-driven work on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, control boxes, cabinets, housings, vents, switch covers, and support hardware. It can also be used on fabricated parts, mock-ups, training aids, and color-coded accessories when the goal is to keep separate components aligned to the same Fed Std 595C target.
Because this is a light color, coverage can be affected by what is underneath it. Darker or uneven substrates may show through more easily, so surface preparation and film build matter. Sheen and texture also change how the beige undertone reads, and a glossier finish can make surface defects or application differences more noticeable.
For maintenance or restoration work, remember that a standard reference is not the same as an aged in-service coating. Weathering, abrasion, and existing gloss level can shift the appearance of the part you are trying to match. MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the reference, rather than an official government-issued coating system, so acceptance-critical jobs may benefit from checking the actual part or a sample panel.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
Fed Std 595C 27778 identifies a color reference target. It does not, by itself, define the coating chemistry, gloss, surface prep, corrosion protection system, or any formal approval status.
If your project needs a specific finish or specification package, confirm those requirements separately before ordering MyPerfectColor paint matched to Fed Std 595C 27778.
Not always. A correct match to Fed Std 595C 27778 can still look different beside an aged coating because weathering, fade, sheen, texture, and prior paint layers change the appearance of the repaired area.
If the part is already in service and the area is highly visible, a match to the existing part or a full-part repaint may be the safer choice than relying on the standard reference alone.
Dry-to-touch, recoat, and full cure are different stages. The timing depends on the MyPerfectColor product format you choose for Fed Std 595C 27778 and on the conditions where you apply it.
Use the instructions for the exact product you ordered when planning the job, and do not put the part back in service until the coating has reached full cure.
Clean the surface first, remove grease and loose material, and scuff or sand as needed so the coating can bond properly. If there is rust or corrosion, address it before painting.
For bare metal, unknown coatings, or mixed substrates, a primer may be needed depending on the part and the product format selected. Testing on the actual surface is a good check before coating the full item.
