A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 35052 reads as a dark, muted blue with a clear cool bias and a modest gray cast. It is lower in chroma than a bright blue, so the color feels restrained rather than vivid, and its low lightness gives it a deep, functional appearance.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint is made to match this government color reference for procurement, maintenance, fabrication, and restoration work. It can be used on spray-painted panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, rails, switch covers, hardware, carts, and fabricated parts when a documented Fed Std 595C target is needed across metal, plastic, composite, or previously coated surfaces.
Because this is a dark color, finish and substrate can change how it reads after application. Gloss level, film build, and surface texture may make the blue appear deeper or slightly grayer, and touch-up beside an aged coating can show differences even when the reference match is correct. On lighter or uneven substrates, additional coats may be needed for uniform coverage and to limit show-through.
For acceptance-critical work, it is often better to compare the standard reference against the actual part or an approved sample panel, since weathering, fading, and sheen loss can shift an in-service coating away from the original code. Matching the code alone does not define the full coating system or approval status.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 35052 is a government color reference target. It tells MyPerfectColor which color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, application method, or any formal approval status.
If your project calls out this code, order MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint to that Fed Standard reference and confirm the rest of the coating system separately.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 35052 is the correct reference if the specification calls for that code, but it may not visually match an aged in-service coating. Weathering, fade, sheen changes, texture, and prior repaint work can make the repaired area look different even when the color code is right.
For small touch-ups, the standard match may be acceptable. For large visible repairs or acceptance-sensitive work, matching the existing part or using a sample panel is often the safer choice.
For Fed Std 595C 35052, clean the part first, remove oil and contamination, and scuff or sand the surface as needed so the coating can bond properly. If the part has rust, corrosion, or a failing existing coating, those issues should be addressed before painting.
For metal, bare areas usually need a suitable primer or coating system selected for the substrate and service conditions. If you are coating over an existing finish, test a small area on the actual part before painting the full surface.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are not the same thing for Fed Std 595C 35052. The right timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order, such as spray paint or another touch-up format, as well as temperature, humidity, film thickness, and substrate.
Follow the product instructions for the exact recoat window and handling time before putting the part back into service.
No. Fed Std 595C 35052 identifies the color reference, but it does not tell you whether the coating needs to be for indoor use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemical exposure, or a specific substrate.
Choose the MyPerfectColor product format and coating type based on the service environment and the part itself. The color code gives the target appearance, while the project conditions determine the rest of the product choice.
