A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14066 reads as a very dark blue-green with a muted teal cast. The low lightness keeps it close to black in some lighting, while the negative a value and modest chroma keep the color more green-leaning than blue and less vivid than a clean emerald.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint in this government color standard is useful when a drawing, maintenance record, or procurement spec calls for a match of Fed Std 595C 14066. It is a reference match for specification-driven work, not an official government coating system, so sheen, film build, and surface prep still matter to the final result.
This color can be used on metal brackets, access panels, enclosures, control boxes, housings, switch covers, support frames, carts, and fabricated parts where a dark blue-green reference is needed. In spray paint form, it is also practical for touch-up on rails, hardware, fixture components, training aids, mock-up parts, and other small surfaces that need to stay aligned with a specified government standard.
Because this is a dark color, surface condition and sheen differences can be easy to see, especially next to older or weathered coatings. Thin spray passes can leave patch lines, sanding marks, or substrate contrast visible until the film builds evenly, and gloss level can change how green or blue the color reads. If you are repairing an in-service part, a standard-reference match may still differ from an aged coating that has faded, polished, or lost gloss.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 14066 is a government color reference target. It tells MyPerfectColor which color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, coating system, or approval status for your project.
Order it as MyPerfectColor paint matched to the selected Fed Standard 595C 14066 reference, and make sure the product type and finish you choose fit the actual job requirements.
Not always. A correct match to Fed Std 595C 14066 can still look different next to an older coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or developed texture differences.
If you are repairing a visible area on an existing part, the standard code may be the right reference, but a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part can sometimes be the better choice. For acceptance-critical work, confirm the match against the actual surface before committing.
Yes, Fed Std 595C 14066 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, training aids, mock-ups, and fabricated components.
It is a practical reference when the project needs a known government color standard rather than a decorative color choice. MyPerfectColor can supply a custom-matched paint in a format that fits the part and the application method.
Custom-made color matches should be reviewed carefully before purchase because they are not returnable or refundable.
Before ordering Fed Std 595C 14066, confirm the exact government color code, the product type, the finish, and the quantity. If the job is sensitive, verify the target against the project requirements before you place the order.
Reorder Fed Std 595C 14066 by the exact code, the same product type, and the same finish whenever possible. That gives you the best chance of keeping the color consistent from one order to the next.
Even with the same reference, the final appearance can still shift with substrate, surface prep, film build, and application method. If multiple parts must look alike, keep those variables as close as possible from part to part.
