A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 33510 is a light-to-mid warm tan beige with a muted yellow cast and low-to-moderate chroma. It reads soft and earthy rather than bright, with enough depth to stay visible on small parts without looking heavy.
MyPerfectColor custom-matched paint made to match this government color reference can be useful on equipment panels, enclosures, brackets, housings, maintenance carts, fabricated covers, and other parts that need a consistent tan-beige finish. In spray paint form, it also works well for touch-up on switch covers, vent grilles, hardware, rails, and small support components where the goal is to carry the same reference color across multiple surfaces.
Because 33510 is a lighter muted color, thin coverage over dark or uneven substrates can allow contrast or show-through, especially on spot repairs. Finish, film build, and surface texture can shift the apparent warmth and make sheen differences more noticeable, so a code match does not always duplicate an aged or weathered coating. For acceptance-sensitive work, matching the existing part or an approved sample may be more reliable than relying on the standard alone.

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.
We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]
The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown 5 = Blue
1 = Red 6 = Grey
2 = Orange 7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
3 = Yellow 8 = Fluorescent
4 = Green
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.
A match of US Government Fed Std 595C 33510 is a government color reference target. It tells you the color to match, but it does not by itself define the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface preparation, corrosion protection, or approval status for your job.
If your drawing, manual, or procurement spec calls for 33510, use that code to select the color, then choose the product format and coating system separately based on the project requirements.
Not always. Even if the code is correct, an older coating can look different because of weathering, fade, sheen change, texture, film build, or a different original coating system.
For touch-up beside an aged finish, a standard color match may be close enough, but a full-part repaint or a match to the existing part can be the better choice when appearance or acceptance is critical.
Start with a clean, dry surface. Remove dirt, oil, grease, and loose material, then scuff or abrade the area if the substrate or existing coating needs it for adhesion.
If there is rust, corrosion, or a questionable previous finish, address that before painting and use a primer when the substrate or product system requires one. For mixed substrates or unknown coatings, test a small area on the actual surface before larger application.
Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different milestones. The timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for Fed Std 595C 33510, such as spray paint or another touch-up format.
Plan the job using the product instructions for that exact format rather than assuming one drying schedule fits all. Do not handle or stack parts until the coating has reached the required cure stage for your application.
No. Fed Std 595C 33510 identifies the color target, but it does not decide whether the coating is suitable for interior use, exterior exposure, abrasion, chemicals, or the substrate you are coating.
Choose the MyPerfectColor product system based on the service environment and performance needs, then use 33510 as the color reference for the order.
