Before applying a MyPerfectColor match of Cabot Black 12706, clean the metal well and remove oil, dust, wax, and other contamination. If there is rust, loose paint, or peeling coating, remove that first so the new finish has a sound base.

If the existing coating is still firmly attached, a light scuff can help the new coating grip. Keep in mind that the old coating's gloss, texture, and wear can still affect the final appearance, especially if you are coating only part of an item or matching a repaired area.

Choose the finish based on how the part will be used and cleaned, not just on the color name. With a match of Cabot Black 12706, lower gloss finishes reduce reflectivity, while higher gloss finishes are usually easier to wipe down and can look different on the same color formula.

If you are painting hardware, vents, fixtures, or removable parts, match the sheen to the surface you want to coordinate with whenever possible. The same Cabot Black color can read lighter or darker depending on the finish, so sheen selection is part of the ordering decision.

Plastics vary a lot, so test a MyPerfectColor match of Cabot Black 12706 on the actual item before painting the full part. MyPerfectColor spray paint sticks well to most plastics, but low-energy surfaces may still need better prep or a primer to improve adhesion.

After application, a match of Cabot Black 12706 can look different depending on lighting, placement, sheen, and the surfaces around it. Daylight, indoor light, and mixed lighting can all make the same color read a little differently on the finished part.

If the painted item will sit next to an existing coated surface, inspect it in the actual setting before you decide whether the result is acceptable. Gloss level, texture, and nearby materials can change the way the color appears even when the match itself is correct.
