My house is in desperate need of a makeover. I am having some shutters made and I would like to stain them instead of paint. I'm leaning towards a red oak stain. I need suggestions on wall, trim, and door colors.

Hi Rel,

Your home has a lot of design potential. Color is always the quick fix for any home. Not sure of your color preferences, here are some options.

Option #1

Body of home: Match of Claritone Navajo White

Door: Van Deusen Blue HC-156

Trim: Brilliant White Reason to add more form/definition to your home. Define where the window ledges meet and trim.

Option #2

Body of home: Benjamin Moore Cream Silk 2146-60 a slight tinted green

Door: Benjamin Moore Heritage Red

Trim: Brilliant White (above link)

Option #3

Body of home: Benjamin Moore Whipple Blue HC-152

Door: Benjamin Moore Van Deusen Blue HC-156

or: Benjamin Moore Heritage Red (link above)

Paint the two front wood columns white to add some more shape to your home. Paint all trim white. The colors and white will add architectural detail; therefore, your home will have more definition. Add some plants, but steer away from the bushes. In the front two columns maybe you can add some topiaries.

Remember sample your color because of outdoor conditions.

As for the columns add each topiary in front of the columns. Total two sculpted plant/bushes, can come in any shape or size.

Hi Rel,

Another similar option to consider is Currant Red. I did not realize Heritage Red was discontinued.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been liking the blues. I also want to frame the windows for some more trim.
