kitchen wall paint color

We have black granite countertop and golden oak cabinets. We have done glass backsplash...that also on the light side. Now thinking of repainting walls. Now we can green color. My hubby thinks ginger wrap color- valspar would be a good fit... ant thoughts... greatly appreciate...

Hi,

As for your kitchen it is recommended to paint a light crispy color, or a bright. The reasons are; one, by painting a deep, rich dark color your kitchen will be too dark with your black granite counters; two, since you have golden oak cabinets a contrast of brightness needs to considered from the counter and cabinets depending on type of glass of your back splash. Painting your walls in ginger wrap everything will mesh in, not visually balancing the space.

Here are some colors to start with in the neutrals.

Not knowing your back splash, or your lighting conditions, and the type of sunlight you get I will be more than happy to assist you further, but for now stay away ginger wrap. Sample all color due to lighting conditions, and other factors before final selection.

Hopefully, this will guide you into the right direction.

kitchen...... currently the paint we have is a lighter shade of green.... we didnt want neutral colors... also not very flashy......i am attaching an image of my kitchen..... any thoughts on Valspar Appletini??? also should we use satin or satin soft gloss for kitchen?... thanks again....

Hi,

From the looks of your photograph I see you have gray, white, and perhaps golden, beige, brown tile matching the cabinets? Close up is blurry. Since your back splash has gray, and your cabinets are golden, use a contrasting color with your cabinets by using a blue. The reason being with orange undertones in your cabinets, the color blue compliments orange, and at the same time balances out the gray in your tiles. Using a blue will add the right contrast and balance with white pieces of tile. Your selected color will blend in with your cabinets, and the golden color in your tile, too much of the sameness, not giving visual rest. Stay away from yellow and orange.

Let me know what your thoughts are. For now I will attach some ideas for you to think about.

Color is fickle, it takes several tries to get it right, a long tedious process.

The answer to your question, definitely use a gloss for your kitchen because it is easier to wipe off stains as compared to the satin.

Color Ideas Below

Valspar Tidal Wave

As with any paint color if a color is too dark, move down one or two tints on the value scale on a paint color strip.

Please sample all color before you decide. Remember lighting conditions in your home, and also from monitors to live paint.

I hope this works out.

Hi,

Thank you for letting me know about your color brown in your dining and living rooms, and giving the insight with your color preference. Now knowing your situation, here are some more suggestions. Appletini is too yellow in undertones, and from looking from my monitor this color seems to blend in too much with your cabinets. Your white dishwasher will pop more because of the white brightness, if you were going to paint your walls of Appletini, due to the cabinets. In other words that would be your focal point along with gray popping out from tile. Greens suggested are balanced, and not too yellow in which should help unify your gray tile and golden tones. Please note these are not gray greens, more on the crisp light side, a little bright, but balanced enough to balance out the white in your kitchen along with your golden tones. These greens should be able to coordinate with your browns. Not knowing your brown shades the selections are estimations, and ideas only. Please note the square footage of color and where color it is applied. Compared to a small swatch to an entire wall you maybe a little overwhelmed, or color maybe be too bright depending on your lighting conditions. Lighting conditions varies in your home as compared to other places, and from my lap top. This concept applies to all color.

Hi mary... thanks a lot for your thoughts.... actually yest we tried valspar wasabi green which is almost similar to 7664 sage sensation.... and when i sampled it on walls it was lil greenish and almost similar to what we have right now... but the gingerwrap that i tried on wall...looked somewhat on the lighter side. the concern i have for gingerwrap is will it make kitchen look small?...we do have really gud sunlight coming in....really confused at what color to go now... Appletini i tried..definitely not a fit... i have my painter coming tomorrow....Any other suggestions .... thanks mw

Hi,

The concern with Ginger Wrap is the dullness of color. Will create a dull look in your kitchen because of your cabinets, even though if you get a lot of sunlight. So the greens are not working, and you lean towards Ginger Wrap have you thought of using a brighter shade, a Fiesta Red?

I hope this works out.
