What to use on the wainscoting?

We are using a semi-transparent grey stain on some rough sawn cedar
wainscoting, (Only because all the browns on the cedar wood came out a nasty color. I had thought about a bluish-green but same problem. Wish we had not picked cedar! If I can find a medium or light grey for the wainscoting, what can I use on the upper part of the wall? There are twO huge picture windows so there is plenty of light. We have a reddish-orange type brick on the fireplace. This is a Florida room we are working on. Do I leave the ceiling white? Also would I paint the large beams on the ceiling the same grey as the wainscoting?? Totally blank, could you please help me out?

We have a lot of money in the vertical wood planks and I can't afford to
mess this up!!

Connie have you ever thought of keeping it simple and just using white. Grey makes a crisp pairing with white. As for the ceiling I would recommend white also and stain the beams into the lower wall color. The room sounds magnificent and sometimes just let the elements be the star. You can insert tones of color through various other ways such as art, rugs and furniture.

A beautiful white could be decorators white with a ever so slight grey undertone.

White wainscoting, white shutters, tangerine coffee table and lamp shades. What color walls??????????????

Also we live at the beach so I like it bright.
