Del Coronado

Where did you get this color name??
Was it chosen from a color used at the Del Coronado Hotel in Coronado City, CA near San Diego? We used this great color due to the national historic labeling it had and that it was a perfect match to our exterior home color theme

love paint not sure right for space

hi we have a townhouse on the beach which gets light front and back. we painted half of the kitchen and all the stairwells in BM shaker beige (love it) on a long way from the kitchen leading to living room and the entire LR we painted Nantucket Fog. The color is gorgeous, but I'm afraid that one wall doesn't get enough light and the color is gloomy for a beach house. the painter did a beautiful job. short of repainting, do you have any ideas of what we can do? Thank you so much.

Add images

Hi,
Great question! If you'd prefer not to repaint that wall, then I'd probably focus on the lighting in the room. See if you can adjust the lighting in the LR to brighten it up - sometimes it's as simple as adding another layer of light (a floor lamp, a set of table lamps,) or changing the type of bulbs you're using.

You can also add warmer or white accessories to counteract the gloom.

If you do decide to do a paint intervention, I would suggest using the Shaker Beige on an accent wall in the room, to warm it up, or a similar beige in a lighter color.

Hope this is helpful!
Diana

Thanks for the ideas!

Benjamin Moore Color Stories

if I have a sample of a Color Stories color sent to me, is it mixed with Aura (Gennex) with the exact formula or is it your best match of that color?

thanks!

Hi, MyPerfectColor's selection of Benjamin Moore Color Stories colors are created with Aura Interior Paint, in the exact formula, not a match of the colors.

Thanks,

need help on a 2 story house!!??

Hi Diana, this is the picture of my 1st floor and my hallway. They both are just plain white paint for now. I was very interested in "Shaker Beige" by benjamin moore but I recently stop by Home Depot and found a new kind of brown it called "Harvest Brown" by Behr. I totally in love with both of them. What is your suggestion? Do you have any color suggestion that coordinate with those brown for my kitchen? I will sent you my family room on the other comment. Dont think the website allow more than three pictures per Comments. Once again thank you for your help Diana.
Thank You,
Howie

Hi, thanks for sharing the photos! I'll do my best to help you sort the colors out. You liked these colors: Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige HC-45
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/102913_Benjamin-Moore-HC-45-Shaker-Beige

MyPerfectColor Match of Behr Harvest Brown 710D-4
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/72617_Behr-710D-4-Harvest-Brown

They're both gorgeous neutrals that would flow easily into the rooms and halls in your home, especially with the arches and other architectural details. Harvest Brown looks a a bit darker than Shaker Beige -- definitely more of a brown than beige. You can order samples of each one, to test in your home, as colors can be darker or lighter depending on the lighting. I would also consider using the neutral color in your kitchen, as it looks as if you like to use accent colors in there. The key is choosing a color for the walls that works with your cabinets, so you can test both of those colors near the cabinets to get an idea of how it would look. I'm a huge fan of using painted sample boards to test color, especially if you're trying it out in different rooms. You can order those on the MyPerfectColor site, as well.

For your family room, you could definitely go with a blue wall color similar to Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue, as you mentioned in your earlier question. Here is a similar but slightly lighter color that you may want to sample, as well:

Benjamin Moore Sylvan Mist CSP-740
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/378934_Benjamin-Moore-CSP-740-sylvan-mist

You could also use the blue that you chose as an accent wall in other rooms of the house, even test the blues in the kitchen to see if that works. Looking at the layout of your home, and the architecture, I would limit the wall colors to two or three, and use accent walls and accessories to tie everything together. It would creating a color palette for your home, using a neutral like Shaker Beige, Wythe Blue, and perhaps an off white or darker brown, then using those colors around the housse in rooms, hall, accent walls, backsplash, etc. It would really tie everything in.

Hope this is helpful, feel free to ask follow up questions or provide clarification.

Thanks,
Diana

Help me choose some colors for the outside of my 100 year old house

This is our investment property. I know it could be very warm and inviting, but right now it is a beat up mess. The porch floor is grey, the stucco is a pale yellow (I enhanced it on this photo, but it's really quite dull) and the shutters are a very sunfaded black. The roof is metal. I have NO IDEA what to do. We are in FL. I feel like an avocado color would be pretty, but others say it's going to make it blend in with the yard. Also, should I paint the porch area a different color? I want it to be awesome and inviting. =) Help!

Add images

Hi,
What an awesome home, with so much potential! I can definitely give you some color schemes to consider and test for the home.

I think that you could probably consider a green color for the home, if you chose the right one. A pale avocado could work, with the right accent colors. If you were to paint the porch area, I assume you mean the outer porch area, as the area near the door appears as the bottom of the house. You could try using your lightest accent color (an off white) for the porch, and perhaps using a darker color for the steps. In any case, the door needs to be lighter, and perhaps replacing the fixture (if it's not historic,) with a lighter metal so it's not so dark in there. And with the door you can have more fun with choosing a color -- whatever seems inviting to you after you choose a scheme, or simply use the lighter trim color.

Here are a few color scheme ideas for the home. The colors will be Body first, Shutters second, then trim/accent third.

I hope these color scheme ideas will get you started on finding the perfect color scheme for your new property. Please reply if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Diana

Benjamin Moore

Wow...I never would have come up with any of those. Thank you so much for the tip about the front door! I would have gone with dark. Now I have the task of choosing one of these color schemes!

So glad you liked them! The key is to test the colors in the scheme(s) that appeal to you, and you can adjust the colors to get just the right one for your home. I like to think that my color suggestions are a starting point in finding the perfect colors.

Thanks,
Diana

I've also created each of these into a color scheme, so you can visualize them better:

Spanish Moss - Scheme A
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/scheme/1197_Spanish-Moss

Home for Supper - Scheme B
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/scheme/1198_Home-for-Supper

Saturday Afternoon- - Scheme C
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/scheme/1199_Saturday-Afternoon

Spice Jar - Scheme D
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/scheme/1200_Spice-Jar

The color that appears largest in the scheme, is not necessarily the main body color, it's just how they are generated in the scheme.

Hope this is helpful,

Diana

Kitchen color

Hi, can anyone tell me if I could choose the sample color for my kitchen as the walls? The walls are Stowe white. The trims are nature white. I was thinking of a kick board of new Barron? Please help

Add images

Sorry I mean the same color for kitchen as walls or should I introduce another color? I do like neural colors best. Any ideas?

Hi,
Because of the counter top and cabinet colors in a kitchen, it's usually a great place to add more color on the walls. If I understand correctly, you have Stowe White in the other areas of the house, and are considering something different, but neutral, in the kitchen? And are you considering a different color for the kick board, or would this be in addition to the new kitchen wall color you're considering?

If you have photos of the kitchen to upload here, that would be great. Or can you tell me more about the cabinets and counters in there? I'd be happy to suggest some nice neutrals to test in there that could work with the trim color and the Stowe White.

Thanks,
Diana

Thanks Diana, we haven't chosen the bench top yet. It will be a complete new kitchen. I'm thinking of painting the walls Stowe white as it seems the only color that goes with our marble beige floor. So I was wondering would u use the same color for the kitchen cabinets??????

Hi,

Okay, now I do understand the question better -- thanks! I would probably not paint the cabinets the same color as the walls. Have you considered white cabinets? That would be a beautiful, and classic, look. I would most likely choose a white similar to the trim color in the room, so it would contrast slightly with the Stowe White and the marble floors.

Hope this helps,
Diana

Yes, that helps so much,
thank you Diana
Ps sorry about the confusion, color always does that to me lol

Diana

Thanks Diana, But my question was whether you would use the same color (Stowe white) which is on the walls, for a new kitchen? With trims in natural white.

Bumbles, I was responding to the question asked regarding shutters, above. Your kitchen question was answered in another spot. This reply is for Tonka above.

Beach House woes

http://www.hobbsrealty.com/HoldenBeach/VacationRentals/HoldenBeach/Details/That3_ThatsItThree1125/ click on rental photos to the right I am interested in a color that woulkd work in this seas of red. The room I want to change is the pic of the room with the fireplace/TV Don't know which direction to go due to the wood ceilings being a golden tone. Any blues, greesn or yellows that would look good? Please advise!

Add images

Hi,
Totally gorgeous beach house! Thanks so much for sharing the photos -- it's truly helps.

I'm a fan of keeping colors as neutral as possible when your home has great views, so I think that your instincts are correct in trying to find a non-red color for that room, but one that still works with the red in the house.

With the wood ceilings, and with the other red in the house, I'm leaning toward neutral greens or blue/grays that would look amazing with the white trim and ocean view. I would not choose a yellow in there, because of the ceiling which is already throwing a lot of yellow/gold in the room. Here are some ideas to consider and test. Sometimes seeing the initial suggestions can help you narrow down your choices. I wasn't sure how dark you wanted the color to be, so I've included a variety. (Every computer monitor is a bit different, so you'll want to test the colors before committing to them.)

Benjamin Moore Cool Breeze CSP-665

Hope this is helpful to get you started!

Diana

I like the Smoke

and cool breeze colors. I wonder if the existing furniture can still be used with those colors?

Yes, I felt as though the colors I chose would work with the existing furniture. They are ethereal enough to work with the red upholstered furniture. Once you test the colors, you'll get a feeling for how it looks with the furniture. With the Smoke color, I was inspired by those gray and weathered beach cottages, with the red doors, and white picket fences. Both colors you liked can cool off the reds and yellows in there, but not try to compete with the blue outside from the sky and water.

Thank you

Hi,
Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige is a favorite of mine. It's a nice neutral that has seems to just flow beautifully from room to room.

Can you tell me a bit more about the colors that are already in your kitchen and family room? What colors need to coordinate with the paint in there?

For your hallway upstairs, what types of colors will be around the hallway? Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue is also a beautiful color. I can suggest other colors for you, if you're not sure about Wythe Blue up there.

if you have photos to share here, that would be perfect. But with just a bit more info, I can definitely offer suggestions.
Thanks,
Diana

help!

I have chosen Dorian Gray by C2 for my hallways up and downstairs. Dorian, depending on the light gives off green, gray or light blue color, it is beautiful. The hallway works itself into an open kitchen and I did not want to use Dorian in the kitchen as has too much color and the granite in my kitchen is Ubatuba (dark green) with a mustard yellow back splash and my cabinets are birch ( tan). I am trying to keep my colors beachy and cool. I do not want warmth. I Choose white dove for the kitchen and they put it up yesterday and because my room gets so much light it looks bright white in light and "warm" at night. I have to change the color and the painter is giving me a day to do it. I want to stay cool and not have a lot of color at all as I have 4 open rooms on the first floor and I don't want a rainbow effect. I am hoping to get a recommendation for something cool and very neutral that wont clash with the Ubatuba and birch and mustard colored backsplash. I also have to pick out a new color for the family room which is open and part of the kitchen and I am hoping to use the same color. I am using a true clear bright white for the moldings. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
THANK YOU!!

Hi,

I know that your question is time-sensitive, so I'll give you a few ideas to test for your kitchen.

I think that maybe something with just a touch of color would work for you.

Benjamin Moore Limesickle 2145-50
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/4096_Benjamin-Moore-2145-50-Limesickle

Benjamin Moore Strand of Pearls CSP-395

Benjamin Moore Plast of Paris CSP-185
http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/378823_Benjamin-Moore-CSP-185-plaster-of-paris

All of these colors are neutral, but not white. They have a touch of gray/green, but also should be warm enough for the mustard yellow backsplash. You'll want to test them out to see how the light works with them.

Hope this is helpful!

I've painted my house SW Westhighland white and now I need to pick the shutter color. I'm thinking I want to use grey. Anyone have an opinion? I've temporarily selected Pratt and Lambert color TROUT 33-13. Any thoughts

Hi,

The gray you've chosen initially, is a good choice for the West Highland White; It's definitely one to test.

I will also suggest a few more grays to consider, with your house color, perhaps warmer grays that may look great as shutters.

On-screen and printed color representations may vary from actual paint colors. The actual paint color will also vary depending on the specific paint product, application method, gloss level, film variance, surface substrate, and light source. Please note that due to the small size of paint samples, the potential variation of colors received is increased.
