COVERAGE
400 – 450 sq. Ft. (3701 – 41.8 sq. meters) per gallon, depending on surface porosity and texture. Be sure to estimate the right amount of paint for your job. This will ensure uniformity and minimize the disposal on excess paint.
SURFACE PREPERATION
Surfaces must be clean and free of mildew and forming oils. If mildew is evident it must be removed by application of BENJAMIN MOOREW CLEAN (318).
CAUTION: Use rubber gloves, work goggles, and protective clothing when applying mildew wash. Remove excess chalk, loose or scaling paint. Remove any previously applied cement-base water paints by sandblasting. Glossy surfaces must be dulled unweathered areas such as eaves, ceilings, and overhangs should be washed with a detergent solution and/or rinsed with a strong stream of water to remove surface salts than can interfere with proper adhesion. For metal surfaces, remove rust. Wipe with paint thinner to remove surface oils.
WARNING! If you scrape sand or remove old paint, you may release paint dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNET WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE.
Wear a NIOSH- approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a HEPA vacuum and wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
PRIMERS
For best hiding results, tint primer to the approximate shade of the finish coat.
Special Note: Certain custom colors require a Deep Base Primer tinted to a special prescription formula to achieve the desire color. Consult your retailer [support@myperfectcolor.com].
On most bare surfaces, apply BENJAMIN MOORE FRESH START MOORWHITE Primer (100) or BENJAMIN MOORE FRESH START All-Purpose 100% Acrylic Primer (023). Spot Prime nail holes, surfaces that need caulking or putty, and bare spots.
Re-prime Puttied or caulked areas before applying top coat.
Note: To minimize staining from unpainted cedar or redwood, spot prime butt ends, joints or scraped areas to addition to over all priming. Spot-prime stained areas on previously painted woods before overall priming. If bleeding occurs on cedar or redwood, a second coat of primer may be necessary.
A primer is not required on unpainted or weathered masonry if the surface is firm. Loose, sandy masonry, soft with age, should be dry-brushed and primed with one of MOORE’S Masonry Sealers (066) or (C077).
On rough or unpainted masonry, cement, and cinder block, a first coat of MOORCRAFT SUPER CRAFT Block Filter (285) will produce a smoother finish.
Metal surfaces should be primed with the recommended BENJAMIN MOORE metal primer.
APPLICATION
Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply one or two coats. For best results, use a BENJAMIN MOORE custom-blended nymol/plyester brush, BENJAMIN MOORE roller, or a similar product. This product can also be sprayed. Thinning is unnecessary, but if required to obtain desired application properties, a small amount of clean water may be added. Never add other paints or solvents. Do not apply when air surface temperatures are neither below 40 degrees F (4.4 degrees C) nor on damp or rainy days. Prior to painting, ensure having enough paint boxed or mixed in one container to the complete an entire section. This practice is important with standard as well as custom blended colors
DRYING
Set to touch in 3 hours. Allow at least 4 hours before applying a second coat. High humidity or cooler temperatures may prolong drying time.
CLEAN UP
Clean up with warm soapy water. Brushes should be given an additional quick rinse with mineral spirits followed by a second was in soapy water then rinsed thoroughly with clean water. Spray equipment should be given a final rinse with mineral spirits to prevent rusting. USE COMPLETELY OT DISPOSE OR PROPERLY. Dry, empty containers may be recycled in a can recycling program. Local disposing requirements vary; consult you sanitation department or state-designated environmental agency on disposal options.
